Start low and go slow. Edibles take 30 minutes to 2 hours to take effect. Do not re-dose within this window. Wait at least 2 full hours before considering another serving.
This calculator provides an estimate only. Actual THC content varies based on decarboxylation efficiency, extraction method, and how evenly the cannabis is distributed throughout the recipe. Lab testing is the only way to determine exact potency.
Cannabis edibles are not suitable for anyone under the legal age in their jurisdiction. Keep all edibles clearly labeled and out of reach of children and pets. If you experience discomfort, find a safe, comfortable place and remember that the effects are temporary.
How Edible Dosing Works
When you eat cannabis, THC is metabolized by the liver into 11-hydroxy-THC, which crosses the blood-brain barrier more efficiently than inhaled THC. This is why edibles feel stronger and last longer (4–8 hours) compared to smoking or vaping (1–3 hours).
Decarboxylation is a critical step. Raw cannabis contains THCA, which is not psychoactive. Heating it (240°F / 115°C for 30–40 minutes) converts THCA to THC. Typical decarb efficiency is 85–90% — some THC is always lost in the process.
Not all THC transfers into your recipe. When infusing butter or oil, some cannabinoids remain in the plant material and some degrade during cooking. A reasonable total extraction efficiency is 60–80% depending on method. This calculator uses decarb efficiency only — for a more conservative estimate, multiply your result by 0.7.
For the most consistent results, grind your decarbed flower finely, infuse into a fat (butter, coconut oil) at 160–180°F for 2–4 hours, and stir your batter or mixture thoroughly to distribute the infused fat evenly across all servings.
